The mission of Cumberland United Methodist Church is to “Love the Lord Your God with All Your Heart, with All Your Soul, and with All Your Strength” as outlined in Deuteronomy 6:5. The vision of our church to engage, nurture, support, and inspire our church community so that we can demonstrate the love and acceptance of Jesus Christ in our lives outside of our walls.
Leadership Team: Our leadership team focuses on serving others as Jesus Christ served his ministry. We desire to create disciples of Jesus Christ who go out into our community to connect with others and build relationship.

Ronnie Bell, Pastor

Pastor Ronnie loves his family, his church and his community. He’s been married to Bere Gil Soto, a Disciples of Christ minister (Iglesia Cristiana Hermandad) for four years, and they have a Beagle/Labrador mix named Kingston. He’s been the pastor at CUMC since 2019, and loves his “job” and the people that he’s called to do ministry alongside. One of his favorite parts of the ministry is the CUMC youth basketball program, where he’s known as “Coach Ronnie.”

“God is always doing new things in our story. I’m glad to know that even in the midst of a difficult season in our country and world, God keeps creating new possibilities,” Pastor Ronnie said.

Linda Quick, Choir Director, Pianist

Linda Quick has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Asbury College, a Master’s Degree from Indiana University, and post graduate work from Indiana University and Butler University.

Her educational career includes thirty-five years of public-school employment.   Linda taught elementary education for eight years, special education resource instruction and consultation for three years, and she worked as an administrator for twenty-four years.  For the last eleven years, she was director of Hancock-South Madison Joint Services, an educational cooperative comprised of the four school corporations in Hancock County and the South Madison Community School Corporation.

Linda has been actively involved in church music since she was thirteen years old and has been employed by various United Methodist Churches for nearly fifty years.  She became acquainted with a number of people who now attend Cumberland United Methodist Church when she served as the organist at Asbury United Methodist Church.  For the last twenty-four years of her church music career, she served in several capacities at New Palestine United Methodist Church.  At the time of her retirement, she was director of music and worship.  One of her notable accomplish-ments at New Palestine was directing the Praising Hims  Quartet.  This group produced two CD’s, provided concerts all over Indiana and Michigan, and annually presented a Christmas Benefit Concert which raised thousands of dollars for causes such as the Indiana Children’s Wish Fund.

After two years of retirement, Linda was contacted by Wendy Roberts, a lifelong friend from Asbury United Methodist Church.  At that time, Wendy was the choir director at Cumberland United Methodist Church at the time.  Wendy asked Linda if she missed playing the piano, and Linda’s immediate response was “Oh yes.”   Shortly after that Linda was hired to play the piano for the choir, the praise team, and Sunday Morning Worship Services at Cumberland.

Linda views church music as more than a job.  She sees it as a way to minister to the people in the congregation.  She feels music is able to reach people at some of the highest and lowest points in their lives.  She has found that music opens doors for closeness, comradery, and community.

Kathy Reed , Worship Leader, Praise Team Leader, Alleluia Bell Choir Director

She commences our worship service with encouraging each of us to greet one another and share love to start preparing for hearts for worship. She leads the praise and traditional songs for the congregation. She sings in the choir. She directs and plays in the Alleluia Bell Choir. She leads the children’s choir practice during children’s church so she may exit worship to handle those duties.
